During our visit will be able to admire Piazza della Liberta (Liberty Plaza) the main plaza with the column of Saint Oronzo and the church of Saint Francesco an astonishing cathedral, some aristocratic palaces, the ancient walls and the city’s gates, the maze of white streets and a plateau where you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape with its secular olive trees that reach the coast line.
Ceglie Mesapica is considered the starting point of the Apulian gastronomy due to the famous restaurants and international cooking school. We will taste the delicious Ceglie Biscotto (an ancient biscotto made with almonds, that is a Slow Food product) and discover the old town. The ancient city gates, a plateau that faces the Itria Valley, the picturesque paths with whitewashed houses, the houses of nobility, the Ducale Castle (built by the Normans, restructured by the Swabia’s, Angioini and the Sanseverino family), the Collegiata church (with the paintings of Domenico Carella) and some other churches (San Domenico, San Gioacchino, San Rocco, etc.), the theatre. Our tour ends in the Plebiscito plaza and the clock tower.
